TGD
Since 2001 CAP organizes artistic exchange projects
which take place in turn in three cities : Tambacounda,
Geneva and Dakar. At this day, over 800 artists, art students
and college pupils, from over 20 countries, took part
in these projects. Designed under the name of TGD projects,
these manifestations take place each year, and are considered
by the CAP members to be an ongoing collective art work
in permanent transformation since its first edition in
2001.
TGD9
The concept of TGD9 is similar to the precedent editions:
encounters, exchanges, workshops, collective exhibitions
and visits. TGD9 will bring together 16 confirmed artists
from 7 countries and will take place from September 20
to October 17 2011 at the Villa Dutoit in Geneva. These
dates coincide with the “Manifestation d’Art
Contemporain” (MAC) which happens on 22 to 25 September
2011 in Geneva. A collaboration is being planned so that
the invited artists can take part to the MAC and that
the activities organised at the Villa Dutoit can be included
in the MAC program.
Program:
- exhibition at the Villa Dutoit in Geneva
(Opening septembre 22, 2011 at 06 pm),
- a workshop with young people at the
foyer de Chevrens on septembre 26, 2011. TGD9
will also open up to a collaboration with the “Foyer
des Chevrens” in Geneva. The objective is to give
the opportunity to young people in facing a situation
of social disruption to benefit from a privileged exchange
with the artists. Sixteen young people from the centre
will be invited to the Villa Dutoit for a guided tour
of the exhibition and each artist will explain their work.
A workshop is also planned during which each young will
be coached by an artist in the creation of an art work.
- Concert: a lyric concert with two young
swiss artists Mrs Priscille Laplace, soprano and Mr Fabrizio
Chiovetta, piano on septembre 25, 2011 at 6pm at the Villa
Dutoit.

Objectives
One of the priorities which was at the origin of the TGD
project, is to give the opportunity to artists from Tambacounda
to connect to the national and international artistic
networks. At this date, this objective has been achieved
as it is to large extent artists from Tambacounda who
have taken benefit from the opportunities created by CAP
and the impact of the TGD projects is measurable. Many
have made it to study at the National Academy of Fine
Art in Dakar and/or have been given the opportunity to
show their work in Dakar or Geneva in established galleries.
Thus, they have been able to exchange and create contacts
with other artists and art professionals. Through the
TGD project, CAP tries to partially alleviate the absence
of any cultural politics for fine arts in the provinces
of Senegal, all being concentrated in the capital.
CAP also plays a special role in the possibility it offers
to non-African artist to be exposed to the African continent
art world. For all the artists taking part in the TGD
project – but also for the public – the frame
of each edition constitutes a privileged time and space
to be immersed in a new cultural context.
The CAP is also engaged to favour South to South exchanges
between artists, in particular for those coming from countries
with pore or no cultural politics. To date, the economic
obstacles for South to South exchanges is not negligible
due to the constraints of flights not connecting these
destinations directly. This absurd situation forces artists
to transit through the North, which occurs into very high
airfare costs.
